I love Cape Breeze, it is one of the few “nativars ” I am carrying. It is a wonderful, well behaved garden plant. I use it in large groups to soften my perennials. “Looking for a compact Switchgrass? Take a look at Panicum virgatum ‘Cape Breeze’. It shares the toughness and adaptability of Switchgrass cultivars while offering distinct outstanding traits. It’s short and upright; it’s salt tolerant, and it blooms earlier in the season and stays green later into fall than other Switchgrasses. The short, dense, habit makes it valuable for smaller areas and containers. Landscape designer Paul Miskovsky discovered this plant on his property on Martha’s Vineyard. It is believed to be a hybrid of native P. virgatum and another unidentified species of Panicum. Our friends at North Creek Nurseries, Landenberg, PA, introduced ‘Cape Breeze’ to the nursery world. Asexual reproduction prohibited without a license.” – Hoffman Nursery
